Seat Cushion
gibbs_6a

The problem I have found with motorcycle seats, at least with the seats on older bikes, is that they were designed for looks and not for comfort. On long trips I have experienced “the wiggles” trying to find a comfortable position. This problem becomes very distracting when I should be focusing on driving.

The solution was either rebuild the seat or create a cushion. After many different combinations of foam and skin covers, I made one that passed my test. The breakthrough came when I switched from foam to an air-filled tube. This makes it totally adjustable. The standard valve stem allows it to be inflated with a bicycle tire pump. Just a few pumps is all it takes, so an air compressor is not necessary and not recommended.

The size and shape was designed for use on both my Honda GL 650 (pictured) and my GL 1200 Limited, however I have found this cushion also fits most cruisers with this seat style. On both bikes I have attached the cushion with a single strap that is sandwiched between the seat bottom and the bike frame. Two quick release buckles make for an easy installation and removal.

The Shop

Above is the smaller version of the air adjustable seat cushion I designed for custom motorcycles. Billy Wingerd and his fine staff at The Shop in Minneapolis, MN were very helpful in this cushion’s development.
