I designed this pack with two things in mind. First, I wanted the contents to stay dry. Next, was flap resistance, meaning that anything sewn onto the exterior is caught by the wind and begins to flap. Two D rings, one at each end, are all that was needed, with the removable shoulder strap to handle the pack when the pack is off the bike. Therefore I have eliminated built-in handles. That takes care of the basic design element.
The fabric I selected is a PVC Laminate. This fabric is a polyester weave bonded to vinyl, which is the best one I have found for water resistance. It is water proof until you puncture it with a sewing machine needle. Seam sealer solves the needle hole problem. Next I have double sealed the zippered opening with a fabric ridge to cover the zipper followed by a Velcro flap.
